For our honeymoon we decided to sneak away to Acadia National Park in Maine. The park is on Mount Desert Island in "mid-coastal" Maine and the setting is simply stunning. We explored the island by kayaking, mountain-biking, and hiking and had several adventures each day...

In Acadia, everyone tells you that you have to go to Cadillac Mountain (the highest peak there) to see the sunset, but this was taken right from our own cottage and I liked it even better!

Our first hike was up to the famous Bubble Rock. It's a steep, but fairly quick summit to this erratic that was left behind by a receeding glacier. This rock is on the South Bubble, which is one of a pair that you see in the distance of the top picture of Jordan Pond.

Below is a shot of the "ladders" that the park service has built into the rocks on some of the most difficult climbing sections of trails. This was a Manuel-only hike!

This could be my favorite photo of the trip. When Manuel hiked the Precipice trail ("Difficult" rating) he took this shot with his foot in the foreground...if you look carefully you'll see our car down below (at the "top" of this picture) to show you just how high up he climbed and how steep the ascent was.

This was the view from the deck of our private cottage. We spent many an evening here watching the sunset...

And treated ourselves to many seafood dinners (including three nights of local lobsters).

Here's a glimpse looking at our deck from the beach.

Our second sunset at Cadillac Mtn...we decided to bring our camping cookware and food and had dinner right there at sunset (along with a bottle of wine conveniently stored in our camelback). There were many jealous looks from other hungry onlookers!

On our last day, we had to be out of the cottage at 10am but didn't want to leave Acadia until we had one last adventure. Since I had enjoyed the climbing so much, we decided to pack everything up and then head out to Pemectic Mountain. Manuel convinced me to try a "Difficult" climb and it was by far my favorite day of the whole honeymoon. Here I am, victorious at the summit!

In the middle of the week, we drove to our hiking spot for the day and ended up parking immediately behind a very familiar white Subaru. Eva was also in Acadia for the week and so we had a great hike up Gorham Mountain. Near the summit we let Manuel go off on his own to the Beehive ascent...too scary for me and then we met back up at Sand Beach where Eva and I had tried (unsuccessfully) to go swimming in the icy Maine waters.

This was the nicest trail in the park - Beechcroft Trail. The morning that Manuel decided to hike the Precipice Trail, we had decided that I would drive to the other side and meet at the bottom of this one. Well, when I parked and got out to look around, I couldn't resist and started to hike up myself. We met up (much to Manuel's surprise) about 3/4 the way up Beechcroft and then decided to keep going. The pink granite steps were unbelievable...
